We have 4 buff orpingtons that are almost 17 weeks old (give or take a few days, they were 12 wks when we got them). I'm so excited, I can't wait! Here's 3 of them, I still have a hard time telling them all apart And one in the nesting box, hopefully that's a good sign!

What sort of chicken is that behind the BO in the last picture. It looks like my bantam that I've been trying to identify. Is it feather-footed?

Nope, nobody's laying yet. One of my girls has a pretty nice red comb and is getting her wattles though so I'm hopeful! She's also the one out bantam roo has been chasing around trying to mate with

The one with the red comb is a bantam D'Uccle Rooster and the other is a bantam frizzle hen, they both have feathered feet.

Okay I can't find a good place to ask this question, so I'm going with here because this thread gets a lot of feedback

This weekend we will be getting two new pullets (they are prob around 15-17 weeks old)from a friend. The catch is we have to transport them 7.5-8 hours in our backseat. I need some suggestions for what to put them in. We have a wire dog crate, but it is to big for the backseat. So far I am thinking a Rubbermaid tub with chicken wire over the top...what do you think? Any other suggestions? Please keep in mind my 3 year old will also be in the backseat in a car seat. Thank you for reading and excuse me for posting this here!

Go to an office supply store and get a bankers box. Or any box with holes in the sides. Put a towel in the bottom so they don't slip around. Bring some duct tape to tape the lid closed. The handle holes give ventillation.

I just realized my Buff Orpingtons are 17 weeks old today. My plan for the day is finish the lid on the nesting boxes on the coop and get them open for business. My rooster has been crowing for a couple weeks now, and I saw him successfully (as in she let him) mating one of the hens day before yesterday. Previously they've run off when he's tried.

My first time transporting chickens I went fancy with a huge wire cage and it was a hassle, my second time was a cardboard box with hole punched in it (it was a 5 hour drive) and they did perfect both times!!!, as long as they ate and its not too hot youll be ok!!!:cd






oh and dont worry about putting 2 or 3 in a 3 ft box it actually works out better so they dont slide around!!!!!

I don't know exactly, our neighbor gave us the two bantams and I didn't even think to ask how old they were...they were mostly feathered though and out from under the lights when we got them, so I'm going to guess around 17 weeks or so but that's purely a guess. He is crowing and trying to mate our hens.
