My girls are (roughly) 17 weeks old. We have quite a mix: 3 RIRs, 1 barred rock, 3 silver laced wyandottes, 2 gold laced Wyandotte, & 3 ISA browns. We keep hoping to find some eggs soon, but so far no luck. Unless they are laying under the coop and behind our compost bins...

Thank u kmollyhughes ;) I am a complete newbie and have no idea what to do or look for :( can sone one tell me what a broody hen is and what is a egg song? Do they do special things when they r going to lay their eggs? And how do u tell which egg is from which hens? I have so many questions ;) I will probably make everyone crazy

I am new also, but let me see if I can help: An egg song is a type of clucking the chickens do prior to and during the egg laying process. Broody means the hen wants to hatch the eggs she has laid and will sit on the nest and only come off to eat and drink. As for which egg came for what hen, you could tell by color or by separating the hens to determine who is laying what egg. Mine are not laying yet, however, I have on hen that is ready, she is squatting and she is the only one that has a large red comb and waddle, so when I get my first egg, I know it will be from her. Hope that helps, but some of the veterans should chime in also.
