First Egg Countdown

Hi,
Decided this would be a good thread to join and follow right now. I have 4 hens, 3 of them are 22.5 weeks. The 4th is about 2 weeks younger. No eggs yet. They are really noisy though and their combs are bright red. My husband has seen them squat but I haven't. They have a coop with two nesting boxes, each with 2 plastic eggs in them. But no sign they are getting in the boxes yet. They have free range of my alley. I keep looking in the grass in the run, too. But can't find anything.

They are getting close, especially the Blue Andalusian. I think you'll be seeing a white egg first.

My one and only white leghorn laid her first egg yesterday. For a few days before she finally laid, she'd get up in the nesting boxes and go from box to box. Then yesterday, my granddaughter and myself found a perfect medium sized white egg in a nesting box. She's 20 weeks old on Tuesday, so right on schedule.

We were gone for the weekend and I think I got a pullet egg. Its smallish like my silver laced Wyandotte hen egg but its a much lighter brown almost cream colored egg. I think its one of my barred rocks eggs because she looks the most red and ready she will be 18 weeks tomorrow. I will have to keep an eye on them to see if it is truly a pullet egg if it is one down 13 to go LOL.

I can finally say it!! We got our first egg today. Found it in the run when I went out to lock up the chickens and bring in the food for the night. WooHoo. Looks pretty darn good for her first egg. Doing the happy dance.

Woo Hoo! How egg-citement!
We have 3 ISA Browns. Leia, Silver and Garlic. When we got them 5 weeks ago we were told they were POL. But yesterday when we went out to let the girls out what did we find?

We think Silver is the culprit.

Today we got another perfect egg!
It has definitely been worth the wait!

I have 2 ISA browns pullets, 1 Rhode Island Red Pullet and 1 RIR Rooster. All will turn 18 weeks tomorrow July 30th. The rooster "Beak" started crowing about 10 days ago, Marcy one of the ISA Brown laid her first egg on 27th. She was acting strange, following me up the stairs, wanting to come inside the house, so I figured she wanted to lay an egg. I wasn't expecting them to lay eggs till around 20 weeks so I had not made a nest for them. So I quickly rushed to make one which she settled into right away, even helping me pick-up more wood shavings and putting them around her. I waited for couple of hours and she was just twisting and turning. I was pretty tired so thought it was a false alarm and went in to take a nap. Woke up an hour later to the noise of an a egg song in chorus. To my surprise, there was an egg but not in the nesting or the close-by roosting area. It was in the run by their water. I was happy anyways, Next day, she laid an egg around 9:00 AM, an hour sooner than the day before, so I am hoping she will lay throughout the week. I haven't raised chicken for almost 30 years but my experience with them as a teenager tells me (I might be wrong) that they start laying on a progressively increasing cycle until they miss a day. Well I was raising Leghorns then so these could be different.

Marcy was a surprise though because I had not heard her make any egg-laying noises until the day she wanted to lay an egg, whereas my RIR "Tree-Trunks"(My 5 year old son had named her Tree-hole first but then switched to Tree-Trunks after the character from "Adventure Time") has been making egg-laying noises for 2 weeks and still no egg.

The other ISA brown "Pepe" has been making some noises as well but she is more busy fighting the rooster "Beak". Anxiously waiting for her and Tree-Trunks to lay eggs soon. Hopefully they don't make me wait too long!
