First Egg Countdown

My poor girl. I think she's in labor. She keeps running around like as if she doesn't know what's going on and she needs a place to lay. Barking ans swarking

This is funny, I see things like this too, some of them are matter if fact, go in, scratch, lay down, relax, push out the egg, and off they go, others like to be up and down in and out, turn around, holler just to make sure everyone knows they are gonna lay an egg, then after a few more rounds of this get on with the business of actually laying the egg

That is so terrible Ohjulia, so sorry. I've got to watch for dogs too. Neighbor dog gets out occasionally and people down the street pay no attention to the leash law in the county. But still, I'm introducing supervised free ranging for my little flock of 4. My plan to catch and carry them to a whoop run just isn't working. They are older now, 6 months, and catching them is traumatic for them. Especially for the rooster. We also have hawks but leaving them penned up 24/7 isn't right. Hubby and I are letting them out together in the early evening. He watches out for unwanted guests and I watch the chickens. I can't have them going to the police station which is just a Stone's throw from our yard. Again I'm very sorry about your flock.

She is like a nutcase. She's still trying. She hopped the fence and ran one street over. I had to chase her down...she's an ee so I cannot wait to see what color egg she lays. This may not be her first time but I haven't had any olive or blue eggs yet so we shall see. It'll all be worth it in the end.

Tonight was devastating. My neighbors dog destroyed my flock tonight. He killed half of my chickens. They only started laying this week....
Sorry to hear about your loss. especially since they had just started laying. Hopefully your neighbor will do something about the dog.

I lost my head hen today. She either wandered off or was stolen. I have never seen her go over the front yard fence so either one of the peeps who have been walking by showing interest took her or she was trying to find a place to lay her egg. She usually lays around 8:00 in the morning but had not laid yet when I let her out and put in the pen. I was working on their existing coop to extend it so it was wan't available for nesting. My kids are so going to kill me when they find out. They are not home at the moment.

I suspect a drunken couple who was taking interest in them and asking questions earlier in the morning. When I went back in they were still on the sidewalk.

She laid! A small light brown egg!!!!! Kinda thought it would be a different color but I don't care she laid!! I think it surprised her cause she was hollering and then she came outside the coop and dropped it there lol
