First Egg Countdown

The smallest is my EEs first egg!!
400

Mine are only 14 weeks, and it's headed to winter, so I don't know if I will see any before spring. I am very impatient though. I should probably spend some of that anxious energy on building a nest box for them.

Couple of days ago Marcy my best egg layer, laid her regular extra large egg around 8 in the morning but when I let her out in the run around 10:00, I found a small brown pebble near her in the pine shavings. When I picked it up, it turns out it was an egg and still warm. I guess it is one of those fart eggs. It weight only 8 g. I have posted a picture of both eggs and a penny for comparison.

You will have eggs before spring. It might take a bit longer for them to mature with the shorter days.

Yep, fart egg. I keep them.

I have 11 "girls" and one rooster from an ornamental layer collection from Murry McMurry. I got them the first week in May. I still have not sat down to figure out what they all are but I know half are Chochins and two are polish. They are 25 weeks old now and NO EGGS!!!!!!!!!!! What the heck is going on. Several of them now have nice red combs so I anxiously am looking every day. Is there anything management wise that can change how fast they start to lay? Is it possible that they won't lay until spring. Really I love my chickens but if they don't give me an egg soon I'm going to scream:)
