Well, it is the prettiest little egg.

It was perfectly clean no cracks nice smoothe shell. I fixed up the nest boxes but I need to put a golf ball or something similar to encourage laying in the nest. She lauded in the sand in the run and everyone appearantly just walk around it. No body tried to play football with it.

happy chooks et al, I need your help. I have a couple of girls in my flock that I introduced late in the game. They are both somewhere around 9 or 10 months old. The one which is a lavender orpington, is the one that was fairly traumatized when we introduced her. I think she has been laying soft eggs as I have had, I want to say three now, all under where she sleeps. The last one had a long yellow thing coming out looked like it was a long bit of cooked yolk coming out of the egg. The egg was broken, so I couldn't tell where or when or how that might have happened. Do you have any idea what is wrong or have any ideas for me on how to fix her? She is fairly well aclimated now, but she is still a little bit of an oddball for chicken. Thank you all for your help. Incidentally, I brought her in with a wellsummer that was in her original flock, eho quickly established herself at the very top of the pecking order, but still stayed closr with her friend the orp.

I've seen that too. Keep an eye on her, but at this point, I wouldn't worry. Make sure they have access to oyster shell though. Some vitamins/electrolytes in the water wouldn't hurt either.

My chicken( Barred rock) has been squatting for 5 days now and I was wondering if she will lay any time soon.. I have been feeding them all flock for a couple days now and put oyster shells in another feeder for her... She has not been interested in the nesting boxes and is always on the roost.. She doesn't eat the oyster shells either... When will she lay?? The spacing between her two pelvic bones is 2 fingers.. she is not laying because I watch her every move.. lol

It should be any time now since she's been squatting for a while.

No egg today. I guess they are starting out slow.

Totally normal with them just starting out and the shorter days.

Now what is also normal, but stinks anyway, is when you have A LOT of chickens (over 50

) and you get ONE egg. That happened to me 2 days ago. Most of mine are molting and the pullets haven't started yet.

50 chickens and one egg, I'd be looking for the "we're on strike" banner. Anyway, I'm just glad somebody dropped one, I was really starting to worry about my girls. Thanks for reminding me about the shorter days, kinda forgot about that.
