First Egg Countdown

Quote: Unless you see any other symptoms, no. My Isbar laid a few eggs, then quit for several weeks. (I had too many roosters at the time and she was hiding from them) Then she started back up and has been consistent since.

I think I now know why it has taken so long. My cockerel was stressing them out trying to mount them. They are 32 weeks, I think? Well the girls ganged up on him and beat the living snot out of him the other day. Blood every where. He's ok, a little worse for the wear, but ok and much more docile with them.

Well this morning, I went out to do chores and one was in the nest box, and 4 pullets had Mr Roo surrounded, on the floor, right under the nest she was in, with his head in the corner. Talk about a team effort, for that one egg!!!

Silly boys just don't know when to quit. You don't take on a gang of angry women!

isn't that the truth!

Yeah, poor guy had to find that out the hard way! I must say, I was quite surprised how the girls worked together to help that pullet lay that egg! I have never seen chickens do that before.

Mr Roo is being MUCH more gentle and adhering to what the girls want now though. In his defense, he is young and didn't know what he was doing. This is a spring hatch, so it's all new to all of them.

BUT to see them work together like that was pretty amazing!!! I am pretty sure the girls got things sorted out though and soon I should be filling up the egg cartons!!! I'm sooo excited to finally get that first egg!!! I had no idea what was taking so long...think I do now though

Mr Roo is being let up on the "special" roost again...he had been delegated to the next one down for a couple days after they beat him up.

I just started raising backyard chickens and I can't wait my chicken is about 17 weeks old and should be laying anytime I think. It's exciting to check on her everymorning waiting to see if she's layed. My lil girls are anxious and keep suggesting shes "broken" lol. they're just not as patient yet.

I got another egg this morning! It was so sweet of Lulu (my Dominique) to provide breakfast.
She laid her first, skipped a day, laid yesterday and then laid today. The eggs have been small but perfect (just a small meat spot). Way to go Lulu!
