First Egg Countdown

Still "patiently" waiting for my girls to lay. Really it's not that big of a deal to me, I'm having so much fun with them anyway, I think I'll probably be shocked when I do see an egg because the time is just flying by! They are almost 19 weeks right now, and I wonder where all the time went since they were chicks!

I am loving this thread, it's really cool to see all the first egg love!

Hi again! Mine are 16 weeks now. I have seen others that have had eggs at 18 weeks, more on the production reds. I have RIR's and did not expect them to lay until 25-28 weeks. Still, this weekend I am planning to get straw to make the nesting boxes. None are showing a single sign that they are ready to lay. They are juvenile hoodlums at this point wanting to explore and get into every possible thing. What breeds do you have?

Our big fat BO finally laid her first yesterday

she's about 26 weeks old and she'd been squatting for about a week. so now we have two out of three laying.

First egg!! Wooo! It's a rubber egg, and broken, but yaaaaay!! I think it was one of those noisy leghorns!!

Now what??? They are all still on grower since they are mixed breeds and mature at different rates. Also have a roo. I am thinking of offering oyster shell on the side. Will they naturally eat it if they need it?

Yes get some some of the oyster shell and they will eat what they need. Also save all your egg shells and crush them up into as small as pieces as you can and add in there food. I did about a tsp of shell to a quart of food. And I have very nice thick shells.
