First Egg Countdown

I had some serious high end drama yesterday afternoon with Lemon and her egg laying. After her incessant wandering and getting into areas where she was going to get hurt, AND looking like she was about to have a heart attack with wings spread and beak wide open she finally laid an egg about 6:30pm. It gets dark here around 7:10. She didn't lay an egg today.

The girls ended their streak of 4 eggs a day at 18. Bonus is I got to watch as each hen went up to lay so now I know whose egg is which!

Awesome! Four of my 10 are now laying, but I am no longer sure which egg belongs to what chicken. And 18 days in a row is amazing-- my chx are nowhere near as consistent. (Though one layed a double yolked egg, which I thought was pretty cool!)

It's better than TV!

I went into the run today to look things over and tidy up and I found this tiny little egg under the ramp that goes up into the coop. I'm posting a picture of it next to a dime and also one of the other eggs we got today. it's SO cute! Much darker than the other eggs that we have gotten.

I'm almost certain it's a chicken egg because we have the whole coop and run covered in netting that is over very sturdy metal fencing material. It's just so tiny, it made me wonder...

My first eggs were nearly that small. It may not have a yolk. Keep us posted when you eat it!

In the first month that my girls have been laying I've gotten 3 double yolkers! Our very first egg ever had 2 yolks, then we had a monster 3" long egg with 2 and another normal sized one. Lemon's day off yesterday resulted in her laying first thing this morning, and we are back to 4 eggs a day!

Ah! I think it might be a first egg from somebody, all of the other eggs we've gotten have been bigger and much lighter shells. I'll crack it open tomorrow and see what's inside. I never thought about it not having a yolk! Thanks!

Yay! That's awesome!

Isn't it great to have people who share the excitement and fun of it all? I tell some of my friends about getting eggs or some other cool thing that my chickens have done and I just get a blank stare. This forum is the best, and so are the people who come here to share in it!
