First Egg Countdown

I have 5 welsummers, 3 RIR, and 5 New Hampshires that r 11 weeks and OMG.....the wait is killing me....lol
Between them and the eggs in the incubator, my patience is truely tried

Mine are 20 weeks. 21 pullers and so far I have nothing. Combs are not red enough or big enough yet.....

The last few weeks are the most excruciating! Lol!

When you do get that first egg, though, all of that waiting is SO worth it! It' magical.

Isn't it the most amazing kind of waiting? The only thing I can compare it to is the last few weeks of my pregnancies where I just NEEDED it to be over! Lol!

The cool thing is that as soon as you get that first egg you know that you've done a good job. your a good chicken keeper! it's crazy cool!

We are getting an average of 10 eggs a day now out of 13 pullets and I wonder why I ever thought I wouldn't get eggs! They are all over the place!

We're at 25 weeks as of Friday. I don't know if they're holding out for more snacks or they are just being stubborn. I can't wait, it's killing me. I check everyday, and all they seem to do is sleep in their nest boxes.

Isn't it funny? ours used to crowd into the nesting boxes, 3 or 4 to a box and hang out on cold days. Now they only go in there when they want to lay an egg. The wait is so worth it when you look in the box and see that first egg. All the waiting is magically erased (at least it was for me).

When we crossed the 26 week mark I was convinced that we had gotten some chickens that just don't lay eggs, Lol! It was a few days later when I found the first egg.

Woohoo!

It's so funny, at one time (not too long ago) I was "egg poor". I had made the determination to not purchase any more eggs from the grocery store, no matter how long I had to wait to get eggs from my chickens.

Now, I'm rolling in them and can't even remember what it felt like to not have 3 dozen eggs in the fridge at all times. Crazy fun! Be careful what you ask for, right?
