First Egg Countdown

Well, 25 super LONG weeks has finally paid off. We got our first 2 eggs from our Blue Copper Marans. They are a beautiful dark brown!!!

I just got my first two eggs and I wasn't even on a countdown, I've lost track of weeks due to work and when i went to give them water today i found my first two! I was so happy I ran to the house to show my mom.



I just checked and there 19 weeks old right now.

My Barred Rock pullet laid her first egg today

I have noticed her and our rooster, Blu, making lots of nests, almost like he was teaching her how to lay. She also sang the egg song today.
I have 3 laying hens that were purchased grown. Flash is our first pullet that we raised from a chick to lay. We are so excited, we can not wait until the other 12 pullets start laying.

Flash is 16 weeks old

Her egg is the small egg that is the darkest.


and here are some of the pullets I am still waiting on, they are all the same age as Flash.

Finally.......15 weeks 5 days...from Carla my red sex link. I knew she was close. Been squatting for a week. I compared it to an extra large store bought white.

My three hens have been squatting, open pelvic bones and dark red combs ... 20 weeks no eggs

15 week old white leghorn

Also adopted two white leghorn yesterday 10 months old so they should lay ones they feel home

Out of seven hens my 1.5 yr old sexlink is the only one laying

I lost my other sexlink yesterday

Thank you, this has been an exciting week for the chickens. Flash laid her first egg yesterday and my LF cochin Jewel hatched her first chick last night. I just love all these wonderful surprises!!!

First egg was 7/12 and we've had another every morning since! Three of our RSLs are the same age, but only one is laying. They were 18 wks. on 7/14.

We also have 5 EEs due to start laying next month!!
