First Egg Countdown

I'm not real positive but I was finding so many feathers all around the area that my chickens get to roam around in, then it seemed that I was hardly finding any and then they started laying. I am not sure but I'm assuming mine may have had a mini molt before they started laying.

Woo, hoo! First egg EVER from our little flock. The only one that even looked close to laying was one of the Barred Rocks, so I'm pretty sure she's the responsible party.

We got her at 1 day old, so she would have hatched May 7, which makes her 20.5 weeks old -- quite the early-maturing girl. In the last days and weeks, she's been making a lot more noise than the others, has very bright red wattles and comb, and has been checking out the nest box. She looks a lot like the picture you posted, Jaxia.

The egg was small and oblong (that store-bought egg in the bottom picture is an Extra Large, btw), and it had a really well-formed hard shell. I even had to crack it a couple of times when I went to open it up. I guess the calcium in that layer feed is doing the job. Here's the result.

Can you tell I am proud of her?

thats awesome! Im so ready for mine to lay. I had read they can around 18 weeks but mine is obviously making me the best egg ever for her first, just like yours!

February she's about half the size of my amerucana roo

Dang feb! Ya she should be laying. Again im no expert but she has to be a bantam of some sort? But I dont know if they lay later than non bantams. I have my very first bantam in the brooder as we speak.

She is the cutest thing ever and I hope someone can answer you better than I can.
