First Egg Countdown

Have been waiting to post for a while :) Around 5 pm, I get a call from my papa saying it finally happened. I am pretty sure I know who did it, a BR named Aleandra and an RIR named Henny Penny. Here they are!

400

I think Penny laid the one on the bottom left, oddly enough a bit larger, pointier and lighter in color than Aleandra's. I think Aleandra laid the one on the bottom right... Any guesses?

Here is the first egg from my Crested Cream Legbar Hope (2nd from the left). Its dull sky blue color kind of like pastel colors.

I went to check on eggs and there she was standing up to lay and literally laid right when I opened the nest door. Made my life easier or else I would have wondered which CCL laid first.

Eggs Left to Right are from: Red Star, CCL, Light Brahma and Black Australorp.

Going craaaazy waiting for these eggs!! My kids and I practically running to the coop when we get home to find the first egg. Nothing yet ;(
Our Buffs are 23 weeks and EEs are 22 weeks. Waddles and comb on buffs (Roxy & Shanay )are bright red but I haven't seen any squatting yet.

Weather here in east San Diego hit 100 today and we are experiencing our last (hopefully) heat wave before things begin cooling down. Maybe this is affecting the egg laying ??

The smaller one on top looks a lot like my RIR's who just started laying so I would say your guess is probably right. Congrats! First eggs are the best

I am also in East SD and other thought the same thing a few weeks ago. Finally got my first egg from my RIR at 24 1/2 weeks just last week, I thought it would never happen. It will happen! The first egg wait is agonizing!

I think your guesses are correct by the color of the eggs. Congrats!

Heat can affect it, but more importantly, make sure they do not run out of water. Eggs have a very high water content, so if they run out, it will affect egg production. Plus, water is required for them to cool themselves down.

Quote: Thanks! I can't believe how red her face is getting and still no eggs! The straw in the egg boxes is slowly being shaped into a nest and she is singing the egg song.. that's all I can tell.

And what a cute thing to do of your chicken! Mine aren't quite that tame :)

Getting so frustrated! One orp hen is allowing roo to mate now making nests and last night right before dark she was trying to make a nest in the corner of coop but in the box today she burrowed it out but still no egg!!! Urg...
