Hi Carolyn,

I read something that said that around 16 to 20 weeks the pullet will have a final molt and will start laying eggs soon

Pearl looks like a Black Australorp or a Jersey Giant. The pictures I see of Black Sex Links shows red feathering at the neck. Did you get her from the tractor store or other feed store? They often don't know what they are selling you.

Do you have a chick picture of her?

Bye,

Ron

Congrats dkcrumly, that's about the size of the eggs that I am getting right now! I actually suspect that I have received Darla's firt egg today, but I have to wait to see if I get three today to confirm. I had a dusky rose brown egg this morning, so I think it's true! Dru's eggs are a beautiful light terracotta, and Carmelita's eggs are latte colored.

Also, I know it's not related to the tread, but I just HAVE to brag! I gave away a rooster to a nice lady on a farm out in the countryside this spring. Goldbert (originally Goldilocks) is the brother to all the ladies I've been posting about in this thread. The lady just sent pics today and told me that I'm a grandmommy!

19 weeks, 3 days - and still no eggs from any of mine! I hadn't heard of a pullet molt right before egg-laying. Lots of feathers in the coop and pen the past day or two. Combs and wattles are getting redder...but no eggs. I"m about to go out of town for a long weekend, and I figure that, with my luck, either my husband or the guy who will check on the girls while we're both gone will be the first to find an egg. Someday . . .

Yep, me too. Heading out for my Dad's 92nd birthday. Hubby will be taking care of the chickens and will probably find that first egg. I did tell him he must get a picture of it.

HI! This is my first post in the forum!
I have 1 new hampshire red, 1 buff orp, 1 ISA Brown, two speckled sussex (plus one speckled rooster). I read the 'reds' will/can lay as early as 17 weeks, mine are about 12 weeks old now, so hopefully something by the end of July, and almost for sure by the end of August?
When I figure out how to post pictures, I'll do that!
