Tell me more about this "egg squat". Because mine is doing what I think is an "egg dance" but I was thinking I might be crazy. LOL. I can't tell if it's a defensive move or what's going on with her.

Here's are my first eggs!!! Finally I'm able to post on here!!

Here's the thing though... I have been checking everyday for eggs. Yesterday I go out and there are 7 in a pile. 7!? How did I miss that?! So I turn to my husband and yell, "Did you put those in there!? Did you do that?!" He says, "Do what?" I say, "EGGS!! There's eggs in there!!"

He promises he didn't do it to trick me, and I totally believe him, but I just don't see how I missed them!

(Of course she did lay them in the mud!) Good grief.

What a difference an hour makes! I see some action in her vent... Not sure if it is good. It looks very red and maybe even bloody but I think I see the egg trying to come out. She is sitting in the shade now outside of her coop and the other 3 are guarding her and protecting her. She is sitting there and keeps closing her eyes... Is this normal? Does it take a while to get the first one out?

The squat is when they dip down and spread out their wings a little when you go near them... She did it yesterday now she is trying to lay an egg!! I'm excited and nervous for her!

It was 9 days from first squat to first egg for us. From what I've read the squat precedes the egg by a week or two.

Mine does that only she also stomps her feet up and down really fast while standing in place. It's really odd.

Our Golden Comet who is laying does the "egg dance." She squats and moves her feet really quickly. It's hilarious now that I know what it is, but before that, I thought it was something defensive. She started laying at 18 1/2 weeks, but I know she started doing the "dance" a bit before her first egg. Now I am patiently waiting for the other 8 to exhibit the sign too.
