First Egg Countdown

Ooooh today could be egg day.. My little Danish Brown Leghorn is the low woman on the totem pole. But after eating this morning she came out of the coop she is running back and forth in the run singing the egg song. HAHA at least if she lays the first egg when I am at work I will know who did. She is my only white egg layer and she is normally very quiet and kind of keeps to herself.
That is a great sign!

My EE did that the day before she laid the egg. She still, two weeks later will lay the egg, squawk and run out of the coop and then sing the egg song. I can' imagine...

Do we want to start taking bets on how long til she goes broody?

lol noooooo don't even say it! Although now that I think about it, that WOULD solve all my incubator problems with the turkey eggs..... *eyes Butterscotch thoughtfully*

I got an egg song yesterday from one of my 20 week old pullets.

Also, my friend and I split a turkey order and they are being shipped in 10 more days!

She's going to brood mine for me until I get back from our vacation.

20 weeks is good for your breeds right?

I hope she lays one soon.

How old is your leghorn. I have one, too. Got it by mistake, but my husband decided we needed at least one white egg layer. She was suppose to be a Speckled Sussex and we had named her Freckles, but now that she is a brown leghorn, we named her Plain Jane.
She is about 18.5 weeks old but I noticed today her comb has nearly doubled in size in a week and its getting mighty red. No egg today yet but maybe tomorrow ??

I hope you get that first egg soon!

I will try to get a good picture of her today.. She is definately leghorn, Skittish and all. I handled her quite a bit as a chick but she never liked it. You should have seen how much work it was to get her out of the brooder for the first outside day they got. All my other chickens come to check out the camera haha she hides in the corner. LOL.

OOOh and... I usually let my chickens out about 5-6 am but I took my daughter to the Vicci Martinez concert last night in Seattle and did not get home til 2 am. Well I overslept and did not let them out til 10 to seven.. Darn it you would have thought I was a mean chicken momma the way they came hauling and screeching out of the coop.. Complained for a good 15 minutes while I sat there with my cup of coffee. No eggs yet today but the nest boxed have been thouroughly inspected and rearranged today too... :)

Did they give you the scrape-the-beak-along-the-wire-"bars" treatment, like convicts clinking their tin cups along the jail-cell bars, screaming,"Let us out, Warden!!" One of my favorites.
