WooHoo got my first egg today from my new flock of chicks. I suspect it is one of my Comets. They are 18 weeks old today. Doubt it was from my Jersey Giants that are the same age.
Congrats to you too!

Congrats on all your sucesses. I agree it is all about sharing your bounties. BTW I would love to have some Welsummers, love to see their dark eggs.We got our third layer today! The ones we have laying are all Cinnamon Queens, and it looks like there will be two more CQ's starting up soon. They are really getting down to business and only the first one to lay has taken a day off. I was finally able to gift half a dozen eggs to my parents todayI love sharing the good stuff that comes out of my little Funny Farm, it lets my friends and family know I'm not completely insane for hobby farming. I also have one EE that looks like she's getting close. The Welsummers probably still lack a few weeks. Can't wait for a rainbow basket!
your welcome its fun glad you are having a good time with that..Yep it is, can't believe how excited you can get over a little egg. Love it. Thanks so much.![]()
Oh I understand,, my girls are 21 wks and 17 wks now.. No eggs. You cant rush them to lay, they will lay when they are ready. The only thing you can do is wait. I have been told to make sure that the nest boxes have plenty of privacy so put in curtains if it seems to have too much light in their. I like the curtain idea so I am making them today. Good luckWe have 12 pullets ages 5 months to 5 months 3 weeks all different breeds and have not gotten the first egg yet! We have a great coop with 6 nesting boxes. We feed them layer feed with DE, brewers yeast, oatmeal and pro-biactin mixed in. Any suggestions besides wait longer? Getting kind of bummed!
I also understand. I finally got an egg from my 27 week old EE. It was amazing! Now I have two sex links that are 22 weeks old and I'm once again waiting for some chickens to start laying. It gets a little discouraging when you read all of these other people's posts that say their girls started laying at 17,18 or 19 weeks of age. Every chicken's different and it takes as long as it takes. It DOES happen eventually - hang in there! We have 12 pullets ages 5 months to 5 months 3 weeks all different breeds and have not gotten the first egg yet! We have a great coop with 6 nesting boxes. Absolutely BeautifulI know I just posted here, but we got our first EE egg today! It's so pretty! It's blue-green, but a little more on the green side. I was surprised at how bright the color was, I was half-expecting a dull gray since she came from hatchery stock. The egg weighed 1.4 ozThe other eggs are from my Cinnamon Queens and they weigh 1.5, 1.7, and 1.9 oz.![]()
