First Egg Countdown!!

I am so excited to go and gather the eggs, it is always a great treat. : D

Even the slightly different sizes and shapes i get i find very cool.

I agree! I always quiz my family on how many eggs they think will be collected and then we see who is the closest. We have laying hens that range from 19 weeks (just starting to lay) to 4 years old. It's fun to see what the hens will lay, I've had them as small as 1/4 of an oz to over 4 ozs.

We now have Easter Eggers and Black stars, which are new to us.. so can't wait to see what we get in our basket now. :)

Today I got eggs from all of the girls laying (now if only my silly little GLW would to start laying!) and I can identify the eggs and thought I would share.

Love the variation of color.

This is a great picture, showing what each type of egg looks like. I have BO, Red Stars and Barred Rocks and can guess who laid what, but don't really know.

AW = Austra White, EE = Easter Egger, SS = ?, BO = Buff Orpington, JG/BSL/GSL = ? Can you please share what type of hens you are referring to where I have ??

Thanks!

Got our first shell-less egg a few days ago, a very interesting sight lol Found it floating at the bottom of their "swimming pool" that I had given them because of the heatwave

Absolutely! I should have provided a key. I didn't have enough space on the picture so I used abbreviations.

AW-Austra White
EE-Easter Egger
SS-Speckled Sussex
BO-Buff Orpington
JG-Jersey Giant
BSL-Black Sex Link
GSL-Gold Sex Link

I have never seen one of those. I have been getting some super tiny eggs. I haven't cracked any yet. I just don't like the thought of cracking the tiny things....they are so cute.....but i don't want to blow them out since i want to see if such a tiny egg has both a yolk and a white. I guess i will have to take some good pictures and then crack them. :)
