First Egg Countdown!!

She is beautiful....it should not be long now! I noticed you have sand in your run. How are you liking it? I'd there a smell?? I use pine right now and getting tired of changing it weekly. Was thinking about switching to sand but a little nervous too........
We have only used sand and it doesn't smell. We clean it up with a sifting rake my DH made (he collect the poop) about every 2 weeks. It is a large area 16X16 and we currently have 11 chickens in there. I think it might need to be cleaned more often when we add more girls. Oh, and the girls love dust baths :)

My wife wanted to buy eggs last night and I said no! My RSL will be 20 weeks tomorrow and 2 of them have been squatting for a week now! Please Girls we need some eggs!

I only have the one squatting, but all of my bigger girls where making such a racket this afternoon. I am hoping that means the others are getting close too. Good luck on having some fresh eggs soon

We are having a great time with our hens. Grandson and I cleaned up their coop tonight. He collected the 2 eggs. We added a new roost to their pen and added cinder blocks so they can take care of their beaks as explained on BYC. He had the eggs for supper. He cracked the shell and found his first double yolks. He was so excited and full of theories of how she got 2 yolks in one shell.

That is awesome way to spend time with your grandson! My fondest memories as a child was at my aunt Nell house. Messing with her chickens lol and is the exact reason we have a backyard coop for my daughter. What a great surprise with the double yokes...WOW!

Love this... I never grew up with chickens, but wanted to get some for my youngest daughter. Thought it would be a great way to learn and have fun at the same time. She loves her chicken and helps her Dad and I all the time. I know she will be thrilled when our fist egg arrives.

Put sand in your coup. Less mess and easier to clean out.

My RIR has been in the coop alone all morning, with all of my other girls pacing the run. Hopefully this means she is getting close!!! I am so excited. My daughter has been checking every hour, lol. So fun.
