I've got 6 Jersey Girls and 16 RIR's and egg production is starting a tad earlier (19 weeks) than expected but that's awesome for me as this is my first Chicken Rodeo! I know first eggs are smallish and sporadic but my Hilton Hotel Five Star Metal nesting box Hotel that's got fresh bedding and is awaiting occupancy seems to be going ignored and whoever the sole layer is (I'm not sure yet) seems to prefer the sand floor of the coop.

I do clean the coop everyday but still?!? Come on ladies I paid some $$$ for this Five Star Hotel...I also put in some fake eggs...will they eventually move on up the ....I'm chalking the floor decision on the rookie factor...any thoughts or comments appreciated. They also wooden ramps up to the nesting boxes....I dunno perhaps escalators????

Sometimes first time layers don't understand what is happening so they just drop their eggs. They all eventually seem to get it. Keeping fake eggs in your nestboxes can help show them where to lay. Give them time.
