She has been on the eggs for about 5 ½ hours today that I've seen. Yesterday she was on them almost all day long. The day before she was on them for the whole afternoon past 7 pm when I got eggs.
Then cross your fingers and maybe she will start brooding full time.
I hope she'll brood. I know she will make a good mom. She rejected her chick at first, but we incubated it. We got a chick and it bonded with the peachick immediately. A few weeks later she took in both chicks. She slept with one under each wing and brought them food and water.
The hen has been on her eggs for 3 weeks. In case her eggs don't hatch we ordered chicks that will come the week her eggs are supposed to hatch. She has rarely gotten off of her eggs. She finally got off of them today. She did go back to them after a few minutes, but the whole time she was off of them she was honking. Is that normal? What does it mean?
When a hen comes off of a nest she will honk and make noise to draw any predator away from her nest as she goes foraging.

And then they are very sneaky quiet going back to the nest.
