First Egg!!!

tonight I go to shut up my chickens and see this little beauty in the corner of the roosting box! Time for those nest boxes I guess... Based on Maturity and color I’m betting on my Mrs Marans! The larger one is from one of the Pullets the farm bought last summer for size and color comparison. So it’s definitely a bit smaller than the average egg here. But pretty nice for her first try!

thanks everyone! I’m so proud of her... she is a Blue Copper Maran (I had ordered Black, but I’m not complaining) I’ve noticed her comb and wattles have grown a lot in the last week, and today I was thinking “gee, they are looking pretty red” when I was feeding this morning.

I think the size is pretty decent for a first egg as well. I’ll weigh it tomorrow... my scale is still in the Barn from weighing out my rescues for ivermectin dosing, and they are all tucked in for the night.

40 grams!!! So a little small... also looks like I might be getting a green one pretty soon, one of my Isbars comb and wattles are starting to get pretty rosy looking too.
