she laid the egg in the far right corner the box measures 22x12.5" once inside it is about 15" high

Congratulations on your first egg! It may be possible that they do not like walking through the black curtain I front of the nesting box, I had a curtain in front of one of my old nesting boxes and I had to remove it as my hens didn’t use the box because of it. But also when my hens started laying they layer on the floor as well and the eventually worked out that they could lay in the nesting box! Good Luck!
