Hello friends! Over the last few days a few of our flock have started laying. Yay!!! We have had 3 beautiful brown eggs (a little bit calcium speckled) and two... not so much. One with a brittle shell and one with a rubbery shell Both were destroyed when we found them, neither in the nesting box. It's normal for the first eggs to be inconsistent correct?? I thought I remembered reading it in another post but can't find it now. They are on layer crumbles and do have access to oyster shells although it seems they rarely eat them.

Hello fellow BYC'er I am new here but I concur with you that when young chickens start out it can take a little while for their systems to work themselves out so you can get 'proper' eggs. I put in the thread below to give you reassurance that we are both on the 'same' page.
Hope this helps...
