I have an 8 month old buff orpington that laid her first eggs over a week ago. Two eggs in her nesting box and we were so excited. It's been over a week and there have not been any more. I know she's young and she probably needs more time to be regular, but she also free ranges during the day. I've looked around my property to see if she's laying other places, but haven't found anything.
I'm not home during the day so following her around isn't really an option. What are my next steps here, or are there no next steps and do I just wait a bit longer and keep checking her nesting boxes? Is is likely she will lay again in the same place? I have some ceramic eggs I've put in there for encouragement. Should I keep her cooped to see if she's still laying?

I would.

Free range birds sometimes need to be 'trained'(or re-trained) to lay in the coop nests, especially new layers. Leaving them locked in the coop for a week or so can help 'home' them to lay in the coop nests. Fake eggs/golf balls in the nests can help 'show' them were to lay. They can be confined to coop and maybe run 24/7 for a few days to a week, provided you have adequate space and ventilation, or confine them at least until mid to late afternoon. You help them create a new habit and they will usually stick with it. ..at least for a good while, then repeat as necessary.
