First Emu Hatch

Just wanted to give an update: I have a chick that has internally pipped and whistling. It is working diligently to get out of that egg, hopefully I'll have more to share soon!

8:00PM was external pip! Wow this chick is going crazy, I'm so impressed! It's been working very hard on that thick shell...

Well, after 47 days and 13 hours, we have a baby emu. It's resting in a rubbermaid right now. One thing I am worried about though: It seems to be breathing kindof funny. Like it's whistling, but not making any noise. It does this sometimes, and then sometimes it breathes fine. Also, it's still resting; anyone have an idea of when I should expect it to be up and about? Like I said it's only been five hours. Thanks guys, and here's some pictures:

Thank you 2buckskins! He or she is for sure very cute. It's working very hard to stand up now. It can hold it's head up for a little while at a time. The thing that worries me though is that sometimes when it rests, it has it's legs spread out, sometimes in a complete splits. It is only going on 14 hours old here, but should I be worried about splayed leg or something? Thanks everyone!
