First Greetings

Thank you to everyone for the warm welcome! And yes I have checked with my citie's ordinances. I plan on just having 3-4 chickens, more if I move to a bigger property. The breeds that I am thinking on are Orpingtons and Barred Rocks. I do plan on collecting the eggs as well as meat. but I figure let them live for a few years before that, IF I haven't grown too attached that is lol Also I am worried about the ventilation, we get some strong storms, whether snow or rainy, with high winds. Made me think about the design of the coop and worry about chickens getting cold because of too much ventilation.

Hi Miguel, it's nice to have you here!

I did a search in the Coop section (it's under the "Articles" tab at the top) and several results come back, check that section out.

I hope you get some good ideas from other member's building pallet coops.

Best of luck to you with all your plans!

Plan on 1 sq foot of ventilation per bird and put it above the roosts. As long as they are dry and out of the breeze, they'll be fine. Also look at cattle panel coops as a fairly cheap solution.

Good suggestion Bob! Those hoop coops look like they'd be fairly easy and inexpensive to put up.

G’Day from down under Miguel :frow Welcome and congratulations!

Personally, I have found the Topic of the Week articles a great resource and a one stop shop for questions which may have already been discussed within the BYC membership group.
