First Hatch 2010-Rocks, Amer's, etc. (FINISHED!)

I did recandle the shipped BBS Rocks and some of the Ameraucanas yesterday. All seem to be doing well, lots of movement in most of the eggs. So, there are still 19 eggs in there, going into Day 16 this evening. halo, that includes the Wheaten/Blue Wheaten egg! I really want that one to hatch.

You probably already said this earlier....but you know me and my brain Cyn. Do any of the eggs belong to Fern? Dutch? Suede?

Hoping the best for your hatch! And yeah! Time is starting to slooooowww dooooowwwn for me too...just waiting for the results of your hatch!!

Amy, there are 7 BRs in there, so Dutch is the daddy of those chicks, all Becca's or Fern's (5 Becca/2 Fern). None of the BBS Orps were fertile at the time, though I think they are now. Those all belonged to Dusty, but now, Smoky is laying as well.

The rest were shipped by QuailHollowP&P and halo. I'll have Ameraucana babies again! That's going to be fun.

In about an hour, Day 18 begins on the 19 eggs in my bator. The brooder is ready except for food and water.

Now, halo, m'dear, how on earth will I be able to tell at hatch the difference between my pure BRs and the Black Rock over BR hen you sent? Or, can I? I realize the males from that cross will be barred and the girls solid color, but I've never had this particular combo before. Is there any difference between the barred males from that cross and a solely BR pairing? I know that Black Rock over Blue Rock will give chicks with no headspot at all and be either black or blue, of course, just like any black/blue breeding. Wonder if your splash rooster sired any of these? Will be fun to see what I get!

I was thinking that myself, that you wouldnt be able to tell those. Of course the girls won't have the white spot. The boys will have the white spot, but will probably feather out very faintly with barring.

Of course, you won't get any boys, so you wont have that problem, right?

Really, I guess it doesn't matter much as long as I can tell the difference between the pure Barreds and the Black/Barred males at some point before they're full grown. I'm not selling any of these until I have chosen the ones I want to keep, so no rush to ID them. I'm not even sure I'll be keeping any of the Barred males anyway. May try to keep a blue one, if I keep one at all.

Beth, I just hate that at the time I started this hatch, none of Dusty's eggs were fertile. The time is close for the broodies to start up, though, and with that first one, I'll put BBS Orps for you.
