first hatch

my 2 silkie girls are now setting on 3 each and thought i needed some help from BYC.


After my chicks hatch what is the first thing i need to do (remove egg shells etc...)?


PS it is my first time hatching (if you cant tell)

Welcome to BYC

When the chicks hatch, you shouldn't do anything until they are ready to leave the nest. Once they are fluffy
and ready to eat and explore outside the egg box, you should provide chick starter and a shallow water bowl.
The egg shells can be removed and the nest can be cleaned when they leave, but until then you shouldn't worry
about it. Be sure that you have everything ready for them before hand - the erea they are in should be blocked off
so that the other birds wont be able to bother them.
