First incubation coming soon, I am nervous! :D

From what I have read the eggs don't cool that quick and broody hens get off the nest once a day so opening the incubator and candling them won't harm anything. But everyone has their own way to do it.
Oh definitely, if you are quick with the candling, I also don't see it as a big deal objectively. Hens cannot sit on the eggs 24 hours a day and provide the heat as an incubator does. But subjectively, I am just really anxious about the whole incubation process and I want to do everything perfectly, so that's why I picked to wait longer.

These don't look alive
Thank you, that's what I thought. I remember my failed first attempts in 2020 with shipped eggs and I remember seeing the veins clearly on the 7th day even in the dark shelled eggs. I am just really hoping it was the mishaps with the old incubator at the beginning that killed the early development and not anything else... I would really hate to throw out another batch of beautiful eggs. It costs these hens so much effort to lay them...

What day are they on?

I'd leave them then. They could be alive. Sorry didn't know what day they're on. Definitely don't throw them out
Oooh, you meant the eggs on the pictures! Those are from the first batch and at the time I was candling them, they were on day 9 - that's when I took the photos. I already removed them from the incubator on Sunday and I've started incubating the new batch of eggs. And I am really hoping this will not repeat...

Oh, ok. Yea those were dead

I hope your hatch goes well and you get a big surprise that they all hatch with no problems.

I am on day 22 and see no pips at all yet. My eggs are dark so I can't see anything at all in them. I have seen the egg wiggle so I know before there was life inside of one. These eggs were given to me and supposed to be fertile. So I will wait till day 27 and on day 28 they will be tossed if I don't see any hatch.

Thank you! All the best to your hatch as well! :) I have darker eggs from one of my hens too, but not dark to a point where you couldn't see the air cell and some veins. I can imagine very dark eggs can be pretty challenging in terms of identifying how they are doing.
