First lockdown!! couple questions.

Ok today is day 23. I had 9 hatch on Wednesday, then nothing. I did candle one that seemed to have had a pip for a couple days but see no movement. There are 3 others that I saw signs of life in on day 18that haven't hatched, and quite a few that I wasn't sure on because they are dark maran eggs.

Should I water test and candle them Tonight? Or wait another day? They've been in lockdown for 66 full days now.

Aww good luck, worth trying. im fighting with humidity levels at the moment(added to much water), some i have look a lil more like day 14 candles. 2 possibly internal pips? I did notice one spot in my bator was usually a degree higher and will cause early hatch. Fingers crossed for us both, I threw out 3 more so at 19 eggs end of day 18.

Ok,end of day 24. Last hatch was Wednesday. All remaining eggs float low, but don't show movement. Some of them are dark maran eggs so it's hard to see inside by candling but there is no movement in the float test either. A good number of these were ones I didn't think would hatch because they were shipped via usps.

I do have one that pipped on day 21 in the wrong spot and hasn't moved since. I show no movement on candling. (I don't think, but it's a dark welsummer egg

Should I throw them all out? Should I try to assist the pipped one? I'm pretty sure it's gone, but what if it's not? Arrrrhhg decisions.

What would you do?

Worth trying with the pipped one. The others, open in ziploc if your curious? I had 2 ick eggs yesterday, and couldnt get those "easy to remove and clean" auto turner trays out of the turner cradle, rotted egg refused to come off, not a very pleasant smell.

Day 24 its not going to do any worse i would say to check, and it will let you move on to sole focus of hatched baby chicks, I read an old post yesterday, some1 though an egg was bad tossed it outside and out popped a baby chick, wiggly, alive and not ready to hatch.

I think you've given them enough time. I'm sure I will be reading the page about assisted hatching so much tomorrow & the next day. My poor hubby is so not going on egg watching duty. Hes telling me as soon as it cracks the shell i should help it, I'm like NOOOOOO! Dont touch the brooder.

An more pics of your 9? Eating and drinking well? Setting up my brooder tub tonight,

I need to get some pictures. I'll try to get some tomorrow and post. All are doing well, and getting their wings even the runty one! My hubby has named her sweet pea so I think she is safe even if it's a rooster! Lol

I'm going to toss the rest of these eggs tomorrow morning. There just nothing going on there. I don't think I have the stomach to open them. I don't mind looking in a clear one, but not sure I want to see the ones fully developed.

Can't blame you there(not wanting to open, ugh but I've had expensive parrot eggs I just had to open from nestboxes when I knew they werent any good to make sure parents were fertile, its not pretty). I have early peepers! Around 5p, today 2 eggs had teeny tiny cracks, at 1145 I noticed a much bigger crack in one of those and managed to get baby hatching on vid! Course it picked the worse angle, haha. But I can say I saw my first chicken ever hatch. Toddler got to watch too(and amazingly went right back to sleep)! But now I'm wide awake and another has a larger pip hole....with about 9 more with small cracks(think these would be called internal pips since there's not exactly an opening yet). But its so exciting and I can't sleep! I've raised and handfed parrots for years but all this happens inside a nest box you can't disturb so I haven't ever seen any hatching until now.

Btw have no idea what kind it is, guy said they were from easter egger/ameraucana mixes but none were greenish so probably just mutts, but cute ones!

---Yay 2nd chick is out and about!

I'm hatching as we speak. So exciting. I'm hatching my own eggs. I have a hova bator. I have 10 chick's so far and they are all over the other eggs too. I quickly open the incubator and grab the pipped eggs and move them away from the stampede so they can comfortably hatch. My incubator is at 90% humidity so if I move quickly I think I'm ok.
