So even though my instinct is to pick up and cuddle Elmira style, after perusing the forums here I have tried a different tactic. I have just been opening the door and sitting in front of it, gently clicking. Slowly my girls have been coming to me :=) last night all three flew out of the brooder and onto my lap. Can you say overjoyed? Because i sure did. Then this morning I had Lou out and she has taken to sitting on my shoulder. I ended up having to put her back as my hubs dog was starting to get the gleam in his eye and looking all drooly, but I have the feeling she would sit all day long on my shoulder if I let her. And the funniest thing happened, she pooped on me twice and I well not enjoyed it but it sure didn't phase me. Who knew I would become so interested in chicken poop. Is it the right consistency? and so on lol.

That's how I am doing it too. It's such a joy to open the door and have lucky Lindy the GLW and Clancette the EE fly right out onto my arm, do some bill-wiping and then settle down for a roost. Their little tummies are so warm! The other birds are starting to come check me out; I have 4 "friendlies" and the rest are wary but still learning that the HAND is not scary. gentle movements and letting the birds come to ME is working better than snatching them up like Godzilla. :) Agreed about the poop: maybe it's because I've been a mom and a critter-keeper for awhile. Poop is one of the most important diagnostic tools we have. If the inputs and outputs are good, health is attained. :) Just don't let me leave the house with chick poops on my shirt, okay!???

You can tell a REAL chickeneer by the way they just check the poop to see if it's normal, and if it is, no big deal if it's on you. If it's NOT, we get worried...

I love being used as a perch!
Oh my I am on my way to be a real chickeneer! Woot :p
