First one, wrong end!!!!

That was tougher than the other one, since there was no pip to start with. I scored an X with small sharp surgical scissors and made a hole above where it's beak was. When I pulled the membrane back I could see it still breathing up and down. Here is what it looks like, did I do ok?

Its beak is closer to that lower line. I was scared of hurting it... Did I pip it too high?

Now what?
Whoops, we posted at the same time! LOL That pip hole is fine. As long as the chick can get fresh air it's good. Some people (me included) make the hole right at the end of the egg and work from there, but I'm a nervous Nelly, I'm scared I'll poke the chick if I go lower. Can you see it's beak?

Oh I was a nervous Nelly alright! Haha but maybe since I had 1/2 a cup of coffee I didn't have the shakes. Either that or I wasn't awake enough to make the right call. And no beak, just it pushing really hard on the inner membrane. (I looked again with the flashlight since you ask.) I think I helped to early.... Agh. It looked like an internal pip. When I candled I could see movement in the sir sac. I sure do hope this helps other people in my shoes. It's day 22, and that movement has been going on 16 hours I think.

Quote: O.K. open the membrane just enough to get it's beak free, so it can breathe. But watch out for blood vessels! As long as it can get fresh air it will be fine for now. Lots of people have been in this position with their chicks. I just wish everyone was a patient as you!

Oh and Ajani is doing great!!! In the brooder.

Cute stuff!

. I tried to make a hole where the movement was and was careful not to hit any veins. But there was still a lot of veins. If it was ready shouldn't those be absorbed up by now. Ugh, I feel like I should have left this one alone. It is still trying to breath, but the hole I made has feather coming out of it, not a beak! Is this one breech to? I really can't tell. I will try to post a pic.

It looks like there is blood but it isn't. The membrane is just wet. But can you see the feathers? It is bulging when it breaths but I can't seem to find the beak. It's back in the bator. I feel like it's shrink wrapping.

Make the hole a little bigger and see if you can find it's beak. Then wet the membrane with the q-tip and put it back in the bator until the veins have retreated. I hope this baby's not breach too! That's all you need.
