Hi
Yup...auction. First time I went. Sold 16 chickens, bought a turkey and peacock and calf.

Here's my peacock. He hatched in May.

Do they need to be in pairs or a flock? Can two cocks live together?

Will he be okay with the turkey for a few months? or should he be housed seperately?

Do they do well free ranging?

Thanks!
Cindy

I think they do best free ranging if you have a lot of space also the cocks ten d to leave each other alone if they each have a large amount of space.

They do best with other peafowl, but the turkey will do for now. You treat them much the same way as the turkey and feed about the same. Looks like an Indian Blue, perhaps a little girly too............ but it's hard for me to tell. the turkey will help the pea in free ranging because if they bond they will follow each other around. It is easier to teach a young pea than an older one to come back. I have four peacocks and several peahens in a pen together, and they do well. Males can live together but having a penhen would be better in the long run. Enjoy!

Peacock have to be 2yr to get the colors, and 3 yr to get the long train(tail). Young peacocks have bars in their feathers, hen dont.
the pic is of purple chicks. peacock on the right, hen on left. Look at the feathers on the back at base of the neck.
Hope thats helps.

Funny story about peafowl, I know alot of people call all peafowl , peacocks. So at an auction one fall, they sold a 3 yr old pr of breeder peacocks, yep I won them. (think pair male and female) no they were 2 peacocks both males.
