First pip and I hear cheeping day 19/20

Don't get too hung up on a particular number. Above 60% is usually fine. I know folks that hatch Marans with zero water at all, 25-30% humidity. I can't even remember what I hatched mine at. I know they always had the smallest air cells, because of the dense dark shells, but they seem to hatch great.

p.s. I assume you know your 2 CL's are cockerels? :p

No I have one cockerel and one pullet, maybe it’s the photograph but she was classic chipmunk eyeliner pullet and he was pale with big yellow spot. Let me show you a better photo

First two cockerel, last one pullet. He now has a big pink comb, she has none visible yet, different tail feathers his are shorter and higher, thicker legs and is about 1/3 bigger than her,

Some can pip and hatch early and some later. it really depends more on how much the temperature fluctuates. If a chick has pipped but not hatched in 24 hours, then assist carefully and if you see any blood, stop. My humidity at hatch is around 70%. I have had some chicks pip the pointy end of the shell. They hatched out fine. I have good hatches. Good luck and have fun...

And another. I feel a little shaky now but I'll bet money I'm right. That's the point of legbars isn't it???

This is exactly what they looked like when hatched

Anyway thanks you took my mind of the egg:thumbsup

Yea it looks like you are right. I’ve had some fool me from hatch though. Good distinct differences are great. Sometimes they aren’t so distinct.

Egg? What egg? :lau

Yeah he fooled me from hatch. For a few hours I thought I had two girls then he properly dried. But now I’ve discovered no crow collars I’m hoping they work and I can keep him if he’s a good boy. Currently got them out to play so am happily distracted. I remember now my maran/legbar cross went from pip to zip in 50 mins and shocked the life out of me so still holding out hope that the other one is beavering away inside the egg!
