Today I found the first turkey egg from my 5 Red Bourbon turkey hens (raised from one-day-olds last July)!
The hen was acting really strange this morning, going into the corn crib away from the others, chirping excitedly, and tonight there was a huge, spotted turkey egg! I'm thrilled.
I'm going to spend the weekend building some nests and big turkey pens. I know I'm counting my turkeys before they're hatched, but I would love to have 10 eggs hatch out of each of the 5 hens. Does anyone have any ratios of hens to successful hatchings?
Will 5 hens and a tom in one large pen/run sit on 5 nests?
A friend suggested just getting a banty hen and putting the turkey eggs under her to be successful.
