First Run of Cornish Cross Meat Birds and Super Excited!

I hope i posted that on the right thread.lol I'm in the TWO WEEK countdown on receiving my chicks from Macmurray. 30chicks. 6 of which are the CX females. I'm going to start them off on 20% for a week or two then dial back to 18% I'M striving for the results that y'all have had with the CX and a restricted diet and free range.I'm really getting excited

Good luck,

Starving them works, I would skip the 18% and go to 16% layer feed after the bag of 20% is gone, save a few buck. I also use some kind of scratch for them early on to cut the protein level and make them work.

The toads are getting 18% still but only twice a day, otherwise they have to hunt to eat.

Thanks JR! I am Hopeful to get him tonight. We have chicken gizzards as bait...
If the trap doesn't work tonight, we are going to bait him to behind the barn and plunk him tomorrow.

Ralph- The toads look just like CX but have more feathers! They look great!

I just heard an awful dying squeaky toy sound... seems like one of the meatballs is hitting puberty and trying to crow!

Took a while to catch up.
MM sorry about Pearl and the others.
Jessica congrats. Sounds like the bully will get hers. I hope you can get the farm.
Ralph hope you eggs hatch. My duck eggs didn't. I guess I will try again soon. And I love the toads.
Mine are all doing well in the heat. Heat index of 107 or higher 9 days strait. Gave them all a bath yesterday to cool them down. Red Nugget crowed for the first time during his but the CX loved it. Been giving them frozen corn and pea treats and iceing down their water too. They free range a lot of the day but I also find them laying under the elephant ears a lot. Any other ideas on how to keep them cool. Pixie one of the CX found away to stay cool but my husband ground on it. I keep catching her sticking her head in threw the dog door but her shoulders are too large to get in the house. He would never let me let her in. But I feel so bad for them out in the heat. I have thought about it.

Check out my wet chicks
