First Run of Cornish Cross Meat Birds and Super Excited!

That is a 30 gallon waterer.

What I did is cut the bottom off a 55 gallon drum. About 4 inches of it.

Then I put a 35 gallon drum inside the 55 gallon drum bottom I cut off.

Then I measured the level the  drum bottom comes to on the 35 gallon drum.  I then drilled a small hole about an inch below that level.

I put Teflon plumbers tape on the threads of the bung, and screw them tight so no air leaks.   As the chicks drink it down the water trickles out.

You know how much water CX's use.   This cheap homemade waterer replaces 6 store bought ones.

I have some 55 gallon ones but those I made using "watering cups" BUT NOT BEAKTIME!! They leak and stop working I use the more expensive ones with a spring in them.
You sir are my hero!!!

I've seen similar waterers that use water ducts or gutters then into the waterer... My question is if you have a metal roof on your shed or coop is that bad for the chickens? Rust= added iron

I have no idea, I use a hose and well water on mine. I have no metal roofs on any of my buildings. I would think rain water off a roof would build algae fast.

Well I guess it's the whole self sustaining idea one member said they haven't had to fill theirs for like six months due to that system but he has wood roofs I have rusting metal roofs for some stupid reason everyone around here thinks metal roofs are better then traditional I think they are lightning magnets

Ahhh

I never thought of putting them off a roof, but here we try to not use gutters as they freeze up and ruin the roof in the spring.

Jessica is it more than just forcing his way to top chicken spot?

If he is not hurting them I would do nothing, if it really bothers you, I suggest you have home raised Cornish game hen, without the Cornish part.
I'm not sure what the chick is really up to, probably just trying to be the top chick. She just grabs the neck feathers of any chick in the 6 inch vicinity around her. Then that poor chick just screams until she lets go. What's funny is I have EEs and Sexlinks together in this group. The bully is an EE and she is only bullying the Sexlinks, not the other EEs. I'll just keep an eye on her. I may have to give her a stern talking to.

Ok, so I've never heard a guy refer to their gf as "the preggo" so that's why I asked. The vodka made me question my wording last night. I meant to ask, why in the heck do you call her that, but thought I was maybe being overzealous. I guess my morning coffee clouds my judgement more than the vodka. Lol!

Eh because she's a preggo... My family jokes and calls other family members preggo... And well she's more then a gf less then a wife so preggo fits I guess
Also we have landed in South Carolina next plane takes us to my homeland( Florida ) for a week
