Well, tomorrow is butcher day for the meaties. So far, this is all I have done to prepare.




Oh, and I helped Pearl "escape". And take a trip to the salon... she LOVED the hairdryer.

BTW the name of my popsicle eating dog is Pearl.....


And I went to "town" last night and am ready for Sunday. I even asked the Thanksgiving guest of honor if he was ready this morning...




BTW It is partially empty because I needed a swig last night to stave off the cold, and the depression over the coming event.


So MM....Why has your bottle been sampled?????

Hey guys busy setting up brooder ,im just curiuos because i bought an non ballast chicken drinker .I dont know how it work and the internet was like "huh?" when i googled it .Also do i have to be able to lift and lower my waterers and drinkers?Thanks all who will reply!

Haha, it was actually unopened (at that point). It was the reflection of my table runner that caused the optical illusion.
However, I have now sampled my medicine. It was dang delicious and helpful as I gave the meatballs their last supper.

I am not sure what kind of drinker that is. As long as there are not gravity fed nipples on the very bottom, you will not have to raise them. It can be helpful to set them on a couple of bricks after the chicks grow some, to help keep the water cleaner.

Thanks mountain mom,but the drinker is reg and is fed by a small black hose .They call it a automatic econo drinker

I'm glad to see so many people raising their own chickens and eating them. I kill and eat my Plymouth rocks and my dark Cornish crosses. Theirs nothing better than chicken TV in the afternoon DENNIS

To me raising and lowering means how high I want my cement blocks under them. Need it higher? Raise it up.

You really need to work on your engineering skills!

I use cement blocks and wood blocks in whatever combination it takes to get to the desired height.

I have no idea what a ballast waterer is. I would like to see a picture of it.

You can. BUT I prefer wood chips/shavings. My coop has no floor in it. I live on very sandy soil and put pine shavings on top of the sand. They stay extremely dry and give the chickens something to dig and take sand baths in even during this cold weather.



I read putting straw or hay in the nest boxes would keep the eggs cleaner. I did this. The chickens vetoed it. They throw it out of the nest so they can sit on the shavings. Any ideas how to stop this?



And while I am at it. ONE more bad habit the hens have. They throw the "fake" nest eggs out of the nest onto the ground! Do I even need nest eggs now that they have "found" the nest? Do I need more realistic eggs? The ones I have are light plastic decorating eggs for kids for Easter.
