First Run of Cornish Cross Meat Birds and Super Excited!

I got the CX because people said they were lazy dirty nasty birds that I would be ready to dispatch w/- any problems. Instead I find this thread and end up with sweet birds that run after bugs, pull on my pant leg for attention, follow me around and I have to close my eyes when I dispatch them

Stumpy! I warned you about that!

that is soo true! it seems that the strain of CX makes all the difference, that and feeding/ranging routines. unfortunately we are limited to a back yard with a neighbor to the north who is not keen on my urban homestead ways so I have to raise the birds in a second level in the coop, out of his line of sight. they are really quite nicely mannered birds. the line we got is quite lively and after reading up on the suggestions, I place all food and water up off the ground so that they have to stand to drink and eat, which helps keep them from turning into "toads". I have been working with my kids to come to an understanding that we can be kind and gentle to these birds, even though we are going to eat them.

It's horrible around here. The bayou has been at flood stage going on a month. Creepie crawlies are EVERWHERE. I walked into a spider web yesterday evening. I put on a good show for the neighbors, flapping my arms, throwing my hat and running in circles screaming.lol I'm terrified of spiders
