First Run of Cornish Cross Meat Birds and Super Excited!

How old will they be at slaughter? Got a question. I live in the Deep South where we're plagued by fire ants. I didn't think about this when we planned to raise our CX in a tractor. Other than obviously avoiding mounds, anyone have tips for dealing with these pests?
10 weeks at slaughter, for most. I will be assessing health and weight before hand. Any birds who are on the small end will go another week or so.

Sorry no advice on the fire ants I'm way up north.

Yes actually I do need help. I need 3 more coops built. Wanna come help?

Let's plan your coops right after you come help me finish my pens and breeding huts. Being older than dirt I have seniority on needing help.

BTW do not mention at the local BA meeting you need more coops built, that can get you thrown out of them.

I don't really "need" more coops but I want more chickens. As long as I can still turn eggs into chicken feed money I see no reason to downsize. This is way to fun of a hobby to give up. Plus I get to eat really yummy chicken, not water injected mutant chicken.

Cx are most definitely NOT mutants. Furthermore geneticists say that chickens have NOT reached the limits of natural growth according to studies. :)
no cx as a home breed are not mutants. It's the way they are treated and grown for mass production that angers me. Therefore I decided to grow them a bit slower so they don't have heart-attacks at 5 weeks old. I love the cx I have they are fully feathered and sweet.
