I’m finally getting eggs daily, and all the ones who are girls seem to be laying.

My one and only jumbo unfortunately turned out to be male, and I exiled him with 4 other roos to the chicken run. He escaped the run one day, and while I haven’t been able to catch him, I see him occasionally around my property. Unlike the other fancy colored quails, the jumbo has always been skittish and his flight mechanism is very much intact, which is what I think has contributed to his survival so far.

Unlike these guys...

And I was surprised they got along, I expected the quails to be int he hiding spots I gave them, but no, they stroll right under the chicken’s beaks!

Now that I have eggs, I just set a whole bunch in the crockpot bator!

Nope. I have eggs galore right now, though. More than I can eat. My incubators are packed and ready for the move too.
I can’t imagine. I only have five females and can’t keep up with the eggs. Can’t imagine how many eggs you’re getting 😵‍💫

Hope everyone moves safely!

I'm getting between 24-30 eggs/day.

I let them rest all winter without extra light and now they've gone nuts with the eggs.
oh wow that’s a lot of eggs
how much do they slow down on laying after a year?

Also unrelated question, but I think you might know the answer. I finally caught my Jumbo... but I’m not sure if this is standard jumbo coloration? It has a grayer upper body patter, and a brown under belly...

Sorry my tiles are gross... My wry neck was out all day and I haven’t picked up after her yet

Your pharaoh is actually a falb fee. Pharaoh pattern, but with the fee gene, which washes out the red. That's one of my favourite colours.

They do slow down after a year, especially if you give them artificial light to keep them laying year 'round. I'm getting about 6 eggs/day out of a pen with 8-10 hens. The days are still getting longer, though, and they just started seriously laying within the last two weeks, so that will probably increase.

oh my, long trip?

i wouldn’t mind if half of mine laid each day. It’s just better in the long run, I wonder if that can be bred into them, lol.
