First Time Egg Candler Scared!

Careful now, it can easily become an addiction! Then you might have to join me at ECA meetings...

Teasing you of course, but it is pretty amazing, huh? My favorite candling days are around 10-15.

I can absolutely see why it's addicting!!! I'm dying to go look at them again. It's taking a lot of self control to give them a few days before I take another peek. I'm sure by next week I'll be looking for an ECA or maybe my husband will stage an intervention!

Well, Amy is experimenting with candling the same eggs every day, so we'll see whether the skeptics that say its harmful are right or not. I know my last hatch, the one that I candled the most, because it was easy in and out of the bator, hatched and is fine!

I have always candled every night but in other hatches I would spot check different eggs. I had 92% last hatch. It'll be interesting to see what if any difference there is between the daily candled and the 7/14/18 candled.

I try to skip a night here and there but usually end up looking at at least one every night also. But like you, I try to rotate which ones. I'm definitely interested to see the effects of candling the same one every night.

I don't understand if you hand turn your eggs then your in your incubator 4/5/6 times a day. then how can it hurt to go in one time to candle with a auto turner ? if you want to. If the theory is humidity loss and you run a dry incubation like I do there again how can it hurt. I think as long as there no piped eggs and your not holding the top up like forever. lift the top grab one eggs put it down candle and replace the egg. In all the research I've done on this subject I've never found anything to say you can't what I have found repeated time and time again is not to let the egg cool off.

Well if its during day 1-18 you should be able to candle all you want. But during lockdown the baby chicks are getting into position and if you move the egg, then they have to keep repositioning and with the time and energy this takes up your hatch rate could go down. This is just what I think. Amy am I right?

I just saw one of my eggs rocking. Woo hoo! No pipping yet though. Day 21.
That's about right, considering what you've said about temps and power outage. My guess is you will have pips today, one or two chicks by tonight, a few more overnight, then the majority tomorrow. If most of your hatching is on days 22-23, I would definitely go to 100.0 on the display. That worked like magic for me. Keep us posted
