First Time Egg Candler Scared!

I am using the hovabator genesis 1588, and I got the eggs from a friend

If this hatch does not turn out then I'm going to get something like that with an auto turner.

You never see veins? How else can you tell?

I wouldn't worry too much about not seeing veins. I usually don't, though I don't have a lot of experience. In a few days you should be able to tell for sure if something is happening or not.

You don't see them by day 5 or you don't see them at all?

Not at all, or I see just hints of them. I think it is a combination of egg shell color and my light source being a little dim. And maybe me not wearing my reading glasses. After 10 days though there is an obvious (at least to me) difference between the developing and non-developing eggs. The non-developing have a light blob in them, the developing have a darker and bigger blob. I hope that wasn't too technical.

I did a quick candling with a much brighter flashlight and I see a lot of veins! At least in the local SLWs. I can only see veins in 2 shipped BLRs. :-( I'm glad I have the local eggs so I know it's not my incubator.

Those green eggs are tough. Best bet is candling for air cells. By day 14 or so, fertile eggs will be almost black above the air cells and infertile will be much lighter

Maybe I should have said shadowed, like a silhouette. Me easter eggers and cuckoo marans, all I can see by day 18 is a dark mass and maybe a vein or two in a lighter egg
