That was such a bummer about the snake! We only hatch about 1 coral blue out of 50++ eggs per year and they’ve met with disaster. Last year’s Coral blue was killed by a snake as a two month old. This year’s coral blue was sold, and the new owner managed to kill the whole group with housing that flooded.Thank you, @Mixed flock enthusiast.
Well - I think they are dandy and I am so grateful I got to see this before I die - was going to wait until the run extention was built before attempting to let them raise their own but being a sole caregiver for a family member that just does not seem to be happening any time soon - it's been 4 years in the making already (even though I already have my sights on this winter again, ha ha - ah, illusions - I guess I'm a little thick and I don't give up easily)
Anyway, ScoopyDoo and Baby Blue helped me out here and snuck in a nest with live eggs and keets and I am so happy I got to see them being such good parents!
About the colors, well, I was excited about them being Coral Blue and we started out with some, but I think the snake ate 2 of the Coral Blues and we only got one left now. I think the other three will be Lavender. Chance is Lavender (the little one I snuck in late from the incubator). S/he is a cutie! The Lavenders may be Alma and Felix's keets. They are both Lavender and they are both very interested in the family but I had to lock them away since there was not enough room for 4 adults with the keets. But they act like aunt and uncle now, being nice to the babies and very interested so far.
Others in the flock have already attacked the babies but all is well still since they scream and duck and give up easily. When they get older and start challenging, I will have my work cut out for me trying to keep the peace without the second run built. Maybe I will get it done this winter....
Also, we got one buck-wheat! I hope there will be more since we need more girls then boys - please don't tell me we got three boys fighting for one girl again. Ouch. Hope the snake did not eat our girls away.
Very cute!!! I love how dad stays with them too! Welch is a single mom, trying to raise the babies alone, leaving them with an aunt while she runs to the communal nest to lay her egg! Love your livestock guardian dog too! They are almost as big as mom now! So proud. And we have another girl!!! I saw two buck-wheating at the same time today. Best news of the day! We have a girl deficit and I thought we had three more boys and one girl. As of two day it is at least two girls. They talk all the time when they are out - easy to find the family that way, ha ha.

Awww, what a beautiful crew!!! Love the colors too. You just need a slate and then you would have the blue background with each version of pearling! The family today: they do hang out together - so funny when they all wanted to see what dad was doing on the roof ledge of the coop...
I think we have two Lavender and two Coral Blue - a boy and a girl of each color - one Coral Blue has a few white wing feathers, just like mom!
