Hello,
I'm attempting to hatch my first goose egg and I don't know if I need to assist or not. I'd love some advise from experienced goose hatchers please. It's 3 hours into day 32 of incubation. It's a Brecon Buff goose egg. It's been incubated entirely under a very good broody hen. However at day 25 she was pushed off the nest for up to 5 hours and I found the egg stone cold.
I don't know when exactly it pipped internally but when I listened to it 36 hours ago I could hear it breathing and very occasional very faint peeping sounds. It has not yet pipped. The only difference I see is that it's breathing quicker now. It just makes the occasional peep. The air cell looks a good size and by listening to it I think it's oriented correctly.
I read Pete55's guide to goose hatching but I'm scared to make a hole into the shell because I'm totally inexperienced with goose hatching so I don't know if I'm worrying because I'm used to chicken hatching timespans...
Thanks

You may need to make a safe hole to give the gosling oxygen to complete it's hatching. I am not experienced at this but have read this guide. I didn't make the safe hole last year and lost a gosling because of it, go right by the directions and be sure to candle to see where the gosling is before you start. https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/491013/goose-incubation-hatching-guide-completed

Thanks Miss Lydia, I made a little hole but it was dead in shell this morning :( The yolk sac was not fully absorbed. Do you know why this happens?
