I just put mine in lockdown this morning. I set up a humidifier in the room blowing right on the top of the incubator and it is helping me keep the humidity up at 60%.
I will have to open briefly 2x a day to turn the silkie eggs in the carton. The carton make them quick to turn so I am not worried. the temp has only been about 99 since I jacked up the humidity. I put warm water in the humidifier to keep it up. I hope it's enough!
I am soooooooo glad to see and hear about everyone's babies hatching! It is hard to know when to step away from the incubator and let Mother Nature take over. We have 100% fertitity and I hope 100% can make it out. Tuesday morning should start the hatch. My husband is going to set up a time-lapse camera (I hope!) so we can record ALL of the details, good and bad, of our first hatch.
10 days after that our silkes are due to hatch. I just candled before lockdown and there was 100% fertility!!!!! Those awkward teenaged roosters know what they are doing! Whoo hoo! We have 8 silkie eggs and 2 from our tough-as-nails Polish hen. She free-ranges and sleeps in the spruce tree, and always used to hide her eggs, but ever since we got the silkies she has hung out with them (all bantams). She has recently shown an interest in their small ground-level coop, and started laying in there! So for sure we saw that and scooped up those eggs! She is old but they both are showing normal development!
This is so exciting! I'm soo glad I can share this with other like-minded chicken-folk!
Thanks, and good hatching!
