First time hatching chicks

I put the wet cotton balls in a shallow lid to keep any water contained (I usually use baby food jar lids but any kind will work!) and I place them under the air vents. Then if I need to moisten them without opening the lid, I use a drinking straw and put water in it while holding my finger on the top then release the water right on the cotton balls.

I have struggled a bit with my chickcozy, mostly with temp (I now have to set it to 102 after finally figuring out that the temp shown is about two degrees lower.) but also with the humidity - I have had several chicks with dry membranes that have had a hard time hatching. Now try to keep mine at least 50% during incubation and 70% during lockdown. It has helped some. It seems like certain areas in the incubator do better as well, for mine it seems like the sides do better than the middle. Anyways, I hope you have a great hatch in yours!!

Did you open the bottom tray to add water during lockdown? I am wondering with the tray right underneath it could cause shrink wrapping once they pip…

I have configured a double straw funnel way of adding water lol. But obviously can’t see how full it is…

I wouldn’t be afraid to open the bottom to add water during lock down, as you could only slide it out about an inch and just pour it in. However I don’t recall having to add water during lock down, because if I fill it up all the way, it doesn’t seem to evaporate out before lock down is over. Especially if I add extra moisture with the cotton balls or sponges!!

Ahh I bumped one of the eggs using my straw funnel method to add water. The egg is still shaking when I talk to it so the chick is ok I think but have I just delayed it hatching? It’ll have to get itself back into position now I imagine….

Day 20, I’m getting restless waiting for them to pip…

Slowly losing my mind.. noon on day 21 and no pips yet!

All eggs except for the one I bumped have been shaking/rocking last night/this morning. Including the one that didn’t move at all afternoon of day 19 and yesterday until the evening.
