First Time Hatching....Round 2

Quote:
Turning is not near as important this far along, so going into lockdown now will not be to big of a deal. I would just wait until you see it pip and then lockdown. Thats what we had to do yesterday and 2 hours later the first one poped on out. Your just going to have a lonely chick in the brooder for a few days, because your not going to be able to leave her in the incubator till Friday with no food or water.
You could try putting her siblings with her unless you want to let mommy take care of them. In which case put the egg under her now so she thinks she's done it all.
By the way we are up to 12 hatchlings so far and some of the BLRW are starting to pip. Nothing from the turkeys yet but some shaking and rolling.

Ok I am officially on incubator lockdown!! I think that the eggs are about a day or so behind, I candled today and there seems to be a little extra space in the eggs. I have been running a little cool, so I guess that could make things develop slower.

I have 12 eggs that made it to lockdown.

Keep your fingers crossed for me and dont forget to send those good hatching vibes this way.

Good I'm glad you made it. Wish you many fuzzy little chicks!
This Hatch has been alot more drawn out than the first one. We started Sunday evening and its still going on. There are a couple in there that have piped this afternoon.
Our count so far are: 9 Millie Fluer D'uccles, 6 BO, 6 BLRW, and 2 BR turkeys. All and all I'm pretty happy. But not a great average concidering we set a total of 41 eggs. Just a little better than 1/2, we'll see how many more hatch this week. I'm really hoping for more of the Wyandottes.
Here is some pics of the brooder at present:

Ok update. My broody has one chick under her this morning!! And I think two more that are zipping. That little chick is so dang cute. Its obviously my broodys egg (cochin) and is very dark with feathered feet. Last round of hatching my flocks eggs I didn't have a cochin baby. So this is great. My cochin so dang smart and turning out to be a wonderful mother.

No movement on the incubator eggs.

Great news! Isn't great to get what you want at least once in a while.
As expected we had 2 more turkeys and 1 more wyandotte today. So our hatch started two days early and has lasted 5 days so far. I don't see any more pips. If everything continues to be quite tomorrow we might call it finished.
We candled all the BLRW eggs we purchased on day 7 and all looked like live chicks. So a few more of those would be nice. Especially since they were so pricey. We picked them up so I can't blame shipping. 7 out of 12 isn't the worst thing, just hoping for better.

It looks like everyone is having success! Thats Fantastic!
A few of mine hatched so dang early (day 18 & day 20) Im sure they beat the living daylights out of the remaining unhatched eggs.
Everytime I checked, the remaining eggs were in a different corner of the incubator.
Oh well.....
Next time, on lockdown, I think Im going to try putting the eggs in an open egg carton inside the bator.
Once the chick hatches and flops out onto the bator floor, it wont be able to get back up inside.
Therefore, leaving the remaining eggs alone.
What do you guys think?
Has anyone ever done this before?
Nonetheless... I only got 2 chicks out of 6.
Im hoping for better odds next time.
Appreciate any advise.
Thanks,
Missi
