first time incubating, first set of eggs went in about an hour ago

Hey Melissa, How's it going? have you snuck a peek at those eggs to see if they are developing yet? I'm gonna try to wait till at least day 7 or 10. Don't know if I can wait that long though. I had a tamp spike this morning so now I'm really worried. I did get another thermometer to check the other ones with . One of them was right one wasn't. Plus I added some jars of water & some rocks to steady my temps. It seems to be holding more steady now. So thats a good thing ! Well I just really wanted to see if you peeked yet!

i havent peeked yet, waiting on day 10 to get here, dont want to disturb their growth. someone told me that when they start getting closer to hatching the temp will start going up and we have to keep a close eye on it. just though i would pass that along.

i just got a few more days before i can look at them

question? I've read alot about people saying the chicks died due to high humidity? I have not seen anyone post what their humidity was at that point in time? can someone fill me in on what their humidity was so I know not to get it that high-mine has lingered betweeb 30-40% Im on day 10 with 50 eggs-I see movement/veining in alomst all of them...my temp is 100.1-102 changes all the time I have a hovabator 1602N with turner

I have read so much on the opinions of what the humidity should be. There are so many differant methods folks use. I am running mine at the 30 to 40 also. This seems to be pretty common. If it doesn't do well, I will adjust on the next attempt!

Sonew -

I pretty much killed my first hatch with a humidity of 60 - 65%

now... i adjust humidity by weight loss of the eggs.

Seems like I usually run at about 42 - 43% to get the correct egg weight loss by day 18.

Still here and still faithfully watching, turning, watching, monitoring heat level, watching, monitoring humidity and watching!

Oh my gosh, I am sooo addicted!

Good Luck to all of you with your first hatches...they are so much fun....we just set 36 Bantam eggs and 30 large green and brown eggs in our two bators...we are at day 9...so far...all of the brown eggs are with chickies...we cant candle the green eggs...just cannot see through them to tell...so they will be a surprise....hope you hatch well...

Thank you-thats the answer I was lookng for-My humidity has been around 30-40ish % this whole time on day 12 for some and day 9-10 for the others--I will never do a scattered batch again-too much stress and worrying about the chicks that are still incubating a few days behind and opening of the bator...lesson learned again!

well after the bator was knowcked off when i came home lastnight, i picked he all up checked them for cracks, found no cracks. i decided to candle them. i just candled the and it looks like a veins are running in the egg and there are darks spots with veins. im keeping my fingers crossed they will hatch and be ok. im not giving up on them.

looks like theres developement in them.
